Villagers in Abuluoha, Butuo had intensive discussion and survey within the village during the first half of the year, they have concluded that they would like to expand their plantation in fruit trees such as mango and cherry as economic crops in order to improve their family income. Project staff helped the villagers seek funding of RMB100,000 from local foundation in Sichuan. In June 2019, agricultural experts from Chengdu went to Abuluoha to conduct assessment and offer guidance to the villagers about plantation of fruit trees according to the soil, climate and geographic location of the village. The villagers participated in the entire program planning, setting of regulations and management through participatory approach. The mango tree saplings were delivered to the village at the end of June. |

The BSC was registered in September, 2011 with a capital of RMB130,000. The cooperative consists of 150 household members from The Project villages. They have a variety of eco products for sale, including honey, free range chickens, homemade bacon, and goat meat from the highlands; white peas, bitter buckwheat, and green Sichuan pepper from Jinyang. The honey from the highland villages proved to be the most popular. The grand opening was held on 8th December, 2012 together with a “Green and Ecological” promotion at the Moon Square in Xichang City. The celebration drew crowds from the neighborhood who shopped for the green products. This is an important step in integrating PALs and their products into mainstream society. |
