Jinyang
Year of Establishemnt : 1959
Population: 126 in 32 households Ethnicity: Yi People Affected By Leprosy: 32 (23 with visible disabilities) Geography: Jinyang County is in the eastern part of Liangshan, neighboring Butuo County. The village is on a sloping mountain at 1300 meters above sea level. It is highly inaccessible. The nearest market, Duiping Town, is 50km away. On foot, it takes two days for the villagers to go to Duiping and get back. Villagers can also go by motorbike-taxi which takes about 2 hours 30 minutes on unpaved road. But they still have to walk for 2 hours from the village to the road on narrow paths hanging on cliffs. The government is building a road that is supposed to link all the way to the village. Economy: Villagers live in 3 groups along the slope, working on a total of 350 acres of arable land. There is no irrigation and harvest is severely hit in dry seasons. The main crops are corn and potatoes, supplemented by cabbage and beans. Most of the villagers raise a few chickens and pigs for consumption. Infrastructure: There is proper power supply. Water is recently available with our water supply project. Villagers live in old, poorly ventilated rammed earth houses. The government is sponsoring the villagers to build new brick houses, renovating the old village clinic which is about 1km from the village, and giving each household a TV set. Education: They have a new primary school with three classrooms, two teachers and about 30 students |
