Zhaojue
Yi Wo Wa Jue Village Year of Establishment: 1955 Population: 435 villagers in 85 households are scattered in 5 clusters along the mountain on both sides of the river gorge. It takes 5 hours drive from Xichang City to get to the entrance of the village. It takes 3-5 hours walk or hike in the mountain for villagers to commune from one cluster to another. Ethnicity: Yi People Affected By Leprosy: 44 Geography: The village locates at the border of Zhaojue County and Leibo County. The village locates on both sides of the river gorge, that is also the main water source. There is hardly any flat land in the village, all the houses are built along the mountain. Economy: There is no economic crops grown in the village due the the poor geographic location and limited sunshine, as there is sun during the mid day so that it is difficult to grow crops as all the arable lands are on the slope of both side of the mountains. Infrastructure: The government has built a concrete road from the township to the village in 2019, it greatly improved the accessibility for the villagers to commune with people outside of the village and for the children to commune from the village school to their homes every weekend. Education: There is a boarding school providing primary education and the school started to provide boarding kindergarten education service in 2017 targeting the children in the village. There are 110 students from the village studying in the school. |
