Luding
Kang Le Village
Year of Establishment:
1959 as Rehab Village

Population: 65 in 16 Households
Ethnicity: Mostly Han and Tibetan
People Affected By Leprosy: 28 (8 with Ulcer)

Geography: Moxi rehab village is located at Kang Le Village of Xinxing Township of Moxi Town in Luding County of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture near to the famous scenic spot Hailuogou in Sichuan at an altitude of average 2000 meter above sea-level.

Economy: Villagers mostly rely on the income from their farming on maize and potatoes, and supplemented by production of wheat, walnut and Sichuan pepper. As the village is sunder the administration of Moxi Town, villagers here have been classified as Five-Guaranteed households; everyone is subsidized with RMB310 monthly. Living standard is relatively better than other project village because of the hard work of villagers and the subsidy from Government.

Infrastructure:  The muddy road to the village was repaired in August 2010 but the landslide is still possible during the raining season; water pipes have been set up to bring spring water from the mountains. There is sufficient electricity supply. RMB2000 subsidy was given to every household in the village for house renovation in 2008 to improve the living standard.

Education:  There is no school in the village, children have to go to the schools in the township or neighboring villages; as the economy situation is relatively better here, the government offers free education to students that significantly relieve the family burden and encourage schooling.
